Per-user or per-channel pricing: what a three-person team pays for a social media scheduler in 2026
Schedulers charge per user, per channel, per brand, or per workspace, and the same team of three can pay under $200 a year or over $10,000. How each model works, with two worked examples priced from each vendor's own page in October 2026.

On this page
Social media schedulers price on one of four things: the number of people (per user or per seat), the number of connected accounts (per channel), a bundle of accounts (per brand or per Social Set), or the whole account up to a limit (per workspace). The same three-person team can pay under $200 a year or over $10,000, depending on which model the tool uses and which plan the team's size forces.
eksis makes a scheduler and prices per workspace, so weigh this accordingly. Below, each model is explained with the tools that use it, and then two worked examples for a team of three, with every price taken from the vendor's own pricing page or help center on October 24, 2026. Check the vendor's page before you decide.
The short answer
- Per user pricing (Sprout Social, Hootsuite, Agorapulse) grows with every person you add. It suits a small team managing many accounts.
- Per channel pricing (Buffer, Publer) grows with every account you connect. It suits a team with few accounts, and Buffer's Team plan adds people at no extra cost.
- Per brand or bundle pricing (Metricool, Later) covers one profile on each network as a unit. It suits businesses with one presence per network.
- Per workspace pricing (eksis) sets a cap on accounts and seats, and the price stays flat until you hit one. It suits small teams with many accounts on a low budget.
- Before comparing totals, find the plan that includes the features you need. Approvals, inboxes, and team seats often sit one tier above the advertised price.
The four pricing models
Per user (per seat)
You pay a fixed amount for each person who logs in. On October 24, 2026:
- Sprout Social: Essentials $79, Standard $199, Professional $299, and Advanced $399 per seat a month, billed yearly. Essentials and Standard include 5 social profiles; Professional and above are unlimited.
- Hootsuite: Standard $99, Professional $199, and Advanced $399 per user a month, billed yearly. Standard includes 10 social accounts; Professional and above are unlimited.
- Agorapulse: Standard $79, Professional $119, and Advanced $149 per user a month billed yearly ($99, $149, and $199 billed monthly). Each includes 10 social profiles; unlimited profiles need its Custom plan.
The catch is the profile cap. A team that grows from 5 to 6 accounts on Sprout, or from 10 to 11 on Hootsuite, moves every seat to the next tier at once.
Per channel
You pay for each connected account. Buffer charges $6 per channel a month on Essentials and $12 on Team for channels 1 to 10, and $4 per channel for channels 11 to 25 on either plan, with about two months free on yearly billing. Essentials includes one user; Team includes unlimited team members plus approvals.
Publer starts at $5 a month for one account and one user on Professional, and $10 on Business. The total rises with each account and each additional member, and every 10th account or member is free. Publer's help center does not publish the per-account rate, so its own pricing selector is the place to get an exact total.
The catch is growth in accounts. Each new client or network is a new line on the bill.
Per brand or bundle
You pay for a group of accounts, one per network. Metricool calls it a brand: Starter covers up to 5 brands for $25 a month ($20 billed yearly), and Advanced up to 15 brands for $67 a month ($53 billed yearly). Team members start on Advanced. Later calls it a Social Set: Starter has 1 set and 1 user, Growth has 2 sets and 2 users ($37.50 a month billed yearly, from Later's small business page), and Scale has 6 sets and 4 users.
The catch is a second account on the same network. A second Instagram means a second brand or Social Set.
Per workspace
You pay one price for the account, with caps on accounts, seats, and workspaces. eksis describes its pricing as flat per workspace: you pick a plan by how many accounts and operators you need, and nothing is metered except posts to X, which come as monthly credits you can top up.
| eksis plan | Price | Social accounts | Team seats | Workspaces |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 1 | 1 | 1 |
| Starter | $4 a month ($40 a year) | 20 | 2 | 1 |
| Premium | $15 a month ($150 a year) | 75 | 10 | 3 |
| Agency | $39 a month ($390 a year) | 200 | 30 | 10 |
The catch is the seat count. Starter has 2 seats, so a third person means Premium.
Worked example 1: one business, three people, six accounts
A shop with an owner, a marketer, and a part-time assistant posts to Instagram, a Facebook Page, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, and LinkedIn. All three need their own login. Prices checked October 24, 2026:
| Tool and plan | Why this plan | Monthly | Per year |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sprout Social Professional | Six profiles is over the 5 on Essentials and Standard | $299 x 3 = $897 (billed yearly) | $10,764 |
| Hootsuite Standard | 10 accounts fit; three seats | $99 x 3 = $297 (billed yearly) | $3,564 |
| Agorapulse Standard | 10 profiles fit; three users | $79 x 3 = $237 (billed yearly) | $2,844 |
| Buffer Team | Needed for more than one user | $12 x 6 = $72 (billed monthly) | $864, or $720 billed yearly |
| Metricool Advanced | First plan with team members; one brand | $67 (billed monthly) | $804, or $636 billed yearly |
| eksis Premium | Starter has 2 seats; Premium has 10 | $15 | $180, or $150 billed yearly |
Two notes before reading the bottom line. Hootsuite puts approvals on Advanced ($399 per user), and Agorapulse puts them on Professional ($119 per user yearly), so a team that needs sign-off pays more than the table shows. And eksis publishes to a personal LinkedIn profile only, not a Company Page, and shows no LinkedIn statistics, so if this shop's LinkedIn is a Company Page, eksis does not cover it.
Later is left out of the math: three people is one more than Growth includes, and Later sells extra users as an add-on whose price appears in the account's subscription settings rather than on the page we read.
Worked example 2: three people, three clients, twelve accounts
A small agency of three runs four accounts each for three clients: Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and LinkedIn.
| Tool and plan | Why this plan | Monthly | Per year |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sprout Social Professional | Unlimited profiles | $299 x 3 = $897 (billed yearly) | $10,764 |
| Hootsuite Professional | 12 accounts is over Standard's 10 | $199 x 3 = $597 (billed yearly) | $7,164 |
| Agorapulse | Self-serve plans stop at 10 profiles | Custom quote | Custom quote |
| Buffer Team | 10 x $12 + 2 x $4 | $128 (billed monthly) | $1,536 billed monthly, less on yearly |
| Metricool Advanced | 3 brands, up to 15 included | $67 (billed monthly) | $804, or $636 billed yearly |
| eksis Premium | 3 workspaces, one per client, 10 seats | $15 | $180, or $150 billed yearly |
In this example the per-user tools cost the most because the profile count, not the team, pushed them up a tier. Buffer's volume rate after ten channels softens the per-channel climb. Bundle and workspace pricing barely move.
Costs that do not show in the headline price
- X posting. Metricool sells X as an add-on at $10 a month per connected account, and Agorapulse sells X Lite and X Plus add-ons. On eksis, posting to X uses X credits: Starter includes 15 a month, Premium 100, and Agency 300. A plain post takes 1 credit, a post with a link takes 13, and posts with links are capped at 2 a month from plan credits. Packs of 50, 100, or 500 credits cost $3, $5.50, and $25 and do not expire.
- Post caps. Later's Starter allows 30 posts per profile a month and Growth 180. Free plans everywhere have caps: Buffer and Publer allow 10 queued posts per account at a time, Metricool 20 posts a month, and eksis 15 scheduled posts a month.
- AI credits. Sprout includes 100 AI agent credits per seat a month. Later's plans include 5, 50, or 100 AI credits a month. eksis includes 300 AI requests a month on Starter and 15 on Free.
- Analytics history and reports. Buffer's free plan keeps 30 days of insights, Later's Starter 3 months. eksis Free has no Analytics, and read-only client report links are on Agency.
- Billing period. Sprout and Hootsuite show yearly rates. A monthly plan, where offered, costs more per month.
Which model fits your team
- Count people who need their own login, accounts you post to, and separate brands or clients.
- If people are few and accounts many, per user can work, as long as you stay under the profile cap.
- If accounts are few and people many, per channel with unlimited members (Buffer Team) or a per-brand plan (Metricool Advanced) works.
- If both are small and the budget is tight, per workspace keeps the price flat until a cap.
- Price the plan that includes approvals, the inbox, and the networks you need, then add X and other add-ons.
Do this in eksis
- Start on Free with one account to check the composer and your networks.
- Move to Starter for up to 20 accounts and 2 seats, or Premium when a third person joins. Change plans from workspace billing at any time.
- Invite people under Settings > Members with Invite member, and pick a role. Contributors write posts that wait in Awaiting approval; Editors approve and publish.
- On Premium or Agency, create a workspace per client. Each has its own channels, members, and settings.
- Buy extra X credits from the billing page only when the monthly credits run out.

Full limits are on eksis pricing. For setting up sign-off, see how to set up a post approval workflow.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is per-user or per-channel pricing cheaper?
It depends on the ratio of people to accounts. With three people and six accounts, Buffer's per-channel Team plan came to $72 a month billed monthly, while per-user plans started at $237 a month billed yearly. A solo owner with many accounts can find a per-user plan reasonable, as long as the account count stays under its cap.
What does a social media scheduler cost for a team of three?
In our worked example of three people and six accounts, prices ran from $15 a month (eksis Premium) to $897 a month (Sprout Social Professional, billed yearly), with Buffer Team at $72 and Metricool Advanced at $67 billed monthly. The plans differ in features, so compare what each includes.
Why does adding one account sometimes cost so much?
Per-user tools cap profiles by tier. Sprout's Essentials and Standard stop at 5 profiles and Hootsuite's Standard at 10, so one more account moves every seat to the next tier.
Does eksis charge per social account or per seat?
Neither. eksis charges per workspace. Starter covers up to 20 accounts and 2 seats for $4 a month, and adding the tenth account costs nothing extra. Posting to X is the only metered part, through monthly X credits.
Do these prices include tax?
Most vendors show prices before tax. Later and Hootsuite say taxes are extra, and Publer adds VAT where it applies. eksis bills through Polar as merchant of record, which collects sales tax for your country.
