The best time to post on Bluesky in 2026, and how much the data can tell you
Buffer's analysis of more than 3 million Bluesky posts puts the best slot on Saturday at 5 p.m., the opposite of X and Threads. Here is what the data says, where Buffer's own reports disagree, and how to test your own hours.

The best time to post on Bluesky, according to the one large study that covers it, is the weekend. Buffer's analysis of more than 3 million Bluesky posts found Saturday at 5 p.m. the strongest slot of the week, weekend afternoons the strongest window, and weekday evenings the best of the working week. That is close to the opposite of what Buffer found for X and Threads, where weekday mornings lead.
There is less data behind Bluesky than behind any other network in this series. Sprout Social's and Hootsuite's posting-time studies do not include Bluesky, and Buffer's own two reports disagree on the peak. This article lays out what the data does say as of October 24, 2026, why the clock may matter more on Bluesky than elsewhere, and how to test your own hours.
The short answer
- Start with a weekend slot between 4 and 7 p.m., such as Saturday at 5 p.m.
- On weekdays, post in the evening between 6 and 9 p.m. Monday at 6 p.m. was Buffer's strongest weekday slot.
- Avoid weekday late mornings and middays, from about 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Buffer found them the quietest stretch.
- Treat these as a first guess. Only one company has published Bluesky timing data, and its two reports name different peak days.
- Expect small numbers. Buffer puts the typical Bluesky post at about four interactions, so test over several weeks.
What Buffer found
| Measure | Result |
|---|---|
| Sample | More than 3 million Bluesky posts, drawn from Buffer's 2026 State of Social Media Engagement data |
| Data period | Not stated in the article. The engagement report's data runs through December 3, 2025 |
| Best single time | Saturday, 5 p.m. (6.89% engagement rate), then Saturday at 6 p.m. (6.81%) and Sunday at 9 a.m. (6.77%) |
| Best days | Saturday (6.17%), then Sunday (6.05%). Monday is the strongest weekday (4.32%) |
| Weakest day | Thursday (3.44%) |
| Best window | Weekends, 4 to 7 p.m. Weekdays, 6 to 9 p.m. |
| Quietest stretch | Weekday late mornings and middays, about 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. |
Buffer's best time for each day, with its two runners-up:
| Day | Best time | Next best |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | 6 p.m. | 8 p.m., 9 p.m. |
| Tuesday | 9 p.m. | 8 p.m., 10 p.m. |
| Wednesday | 9 p.m. | 7 p.m., 10 p.m. |
| Thursday | 9 p.m. | 8 p.m., 10 p.m. |
| Friday | 8 p.m. | 10 p.m., 9 p.m. |
| Saturday | 5 p.m. | 6 p.m., 9 a.m. |
| Sunday | 9 a.m. | 4 p.m., 6 p.m. |
Buffer says the times are adjusted to each audience's local time, so 5 p.m. means 5 p.m. where your followers are.
Why the data is thin, and where it disagrees with itself
One source, two answers
Buffer's 2026 State of Social Media Engagement report, which the Bluesky article says it draws on, summarizes Bluesky differently: a window of 6 to 9 p.m. on weekends, peaking on Sunday at 5 p.m. The Bluesky article says the peak is Saturday at 5 p.m. and the weekend window runs from 4 to 7 p.m. Both agree on weekend late afternoons and evenings. They disagree on the day and the exact window, so test both.
What the percentages measure is unclear
The Bluesky article reports engagement rates such as 6.89%. The engagement report, by contrast, measures Bluesky in interactions per post (likes, comments, and reposts) instead of an engagement rate, and warns against ranking it next to networks measured by rate. The article does not say what the percentages were divided by. Use them to rank the slots against each other, not as a benchmark for your own account.
No second study to check against
Sprout Social's 2026 posting-time data covers Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, TikTok, and X. Hootsuite's 2025 study covers seven networks, and Bluesky is not one of them. For other networks, a second and third study show which findings hold up. For Bluesky, nothing yet does that job.
Why the clock may matter more on Bluesky
Bluesky's developer documentation describes the timeline as "the default chronological feed of posts from users the authenticated user follows." Posts there appear newest first, so a post published while your followers are asleep sinks under everything that arrives before they open the app.
That is not the whole picture. When Bluesky introduced custom feeds in 2023, it added Discover, a feed that mixes what is trending across the network with posts from accounts you follow and accounts near your social graph, and it lets anyone build and publish their own feeds. A post can still surface later through one of those. But for the followers who read the Following feed, timing decides whether they see your post at all.
How much engagement to expect
Buffer's numbers describe small totals.
- In its 2026 engagement report, the median Bluesky post earned about four interactions in 2025, down from about five, while the number of posts nearly quadrupled.
- An earlier Buffer analysis of 1.7 million posts on X, Threads, and Bluesky found Bluesky had the smallest spread of the three: fewer runaway posts, more predictable results. Its median dipped to three engagements in February 2025.
- Video posts earned a median of five interactions, images four, and text and link posts three each.
- Replying helped least on Bluesky of the six networks Buffer measured, a lift of about 5%, from smaller samples.
With four interactions as the typical result, the difference between two slots will be one or two likes per post. You need several weeks of posts before a pattern means anything.
Find your own best time to post on Bluesky
- Pick three slots that cover both versions of Buffer's answer: Saturday at 5 p.m., Sunday at 5 p.m., and a weekday evening such as Monday at 6 p.m.
- Post in each slot for at least four weeks. Keep the mix of text, image, and video even across slots, since video averaged more interactions.
- Record likes, replies, reposts, and quotes for each post after a fixed period, such as 48 hours.
- Compare the median per slot rather than the average. One post that spreads through a custom feed can lift an average on its own.
- Keep the best slot, replace the weakest, and repeat.
Measure and schedule Bluesky posts in eksis
Read your best hours
Click your Bluesky account in the sidebar and open Insights. The Best hours to post chart groups your posts by the hour they went out, in your workspace time zone, and ranks those hours by average engagement: likes, replies, reposts, and quotes. Posts you made in the Bluesky app count too, starting with up to 100 posts from the last 180 days.

Bluesky does not report how many people saw a post, so eksis has no reach for Bluesky. The Eng. rate column in the Post performance table stays empty for Bluesky posts, and the period's overall engagement rate leaves Bluesky out. Compare raw interactions instead.
An hour needs two posts with numbers before it can rank ahead of the others, and a single-post hour is drawn faded. The chart shows hours of the day, not weekdays, so if you test Saturday against Monday, note the day of each post or use Export, then Posts, to get a CSV with the publish time of every post. eksis stops updating a post's numbers 30 days after it goes out.
Schedule a post for that hour
- Connect your account with your handle and an app password created in Bluesky under Settings, Privacy and security, App passwords. eksis never gets your main password or your direct messages.
- Click Create post, pick your Bluesky account, and write the post with text, images, or a video. Bluesky's length limit is checked as you type.
- Choose Who can reply and whether to allow quote posts.
- Click Edit next to Publish time, pick the day and hour, and click Schedule.

Publish times follow Settings, General, Time zone, so set it to where most of your followers live. Replies arrive in the Inbox, where you can answer, hide, or like them.
The Free plan connects one account, allows 15 scheduled posts a month, and has no Analytics. Starter connects up to 20 accounts and includes Best hours to post. See the Bluesky integration or compare plans.
Timing is one part of the post
On a chronological feed, timing gets a post seen. What happens next depends on the post. If the same update goes to Threads and X, read our guide to cross-posting to Threads, Bluesky, and X, since Bluesky handles links, length, and mentions differently.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best time to post on Bluesky?
Buffer's analysis of more than 3 million posts names Saturday at 5 p.m., with weekend afternoons from 4 to 7 p.m. as the best window. Its 2026 engagement report summarizes the same platform as weekends from 6 to 9 p.m., peaking on Sunday at 5 p.m. A weekend slot around 5 p.m. covers both.
What is the best day to post on Bluesky?
Saturday, with Sunday close behind, in Buffer's data. Monday is the strongest weekday and Thursday the weakest day.
Why is the best time on Bluesky different from X and Threads?
Buffer found X and Threads strongest on weekday mornings and Bluesky strongest on weekend afternoons and weekday evenings. Buffer reads this as people using Bluesky in their downtime. The data does not test that explanation, so treat it as a guess.
Does posting time matter on Bluesky?
Probably more than on most networks. Bluesky's default Following timeline is chronological, so posts are shown newest first. Discover and custom feeds can still surface a post later.
Can eksis show my best time to post on Bluesky?
On plans with Analytics, yes. Best hours to post ranks your hours by average likes, replies, reposts, and quotes. Bluesky does not report views, so eksis shows no reach or engagement rate for Bluesky posts.
